Halloween SFX Makeup

Updated: Nov 8

Have you ever left your Halloween costume to the very last minute and started to scramble around looking for something to be? Well, I may have a solution and all it involves is a little bit of Latex, scar wax and some bruised tone colours. You can make a quick gash and still look Halloween ready.

Step one

Now if you don’t have any latex off hand you can opt for a bit of eye lash glue. This one you are able to find at any drug store. Apply the latex glue where you are going to place your gash. (Place it anywhere but don’t get the latex in your hair or on your clothing)

Step two

Grab a small ball of Scar wax and roll it into a small worm shape.

Step 3

Place the worm shaped wax on top of the latex and blend out the edges.

Step 4

Now use the end of a small brush or if you're in a pinch, a toothpick will work. Dig a line in the scar wax right down the middle. Make the centre edges a little jagged and sculpt out the gash.

Sculpt the cut by using a small brush or tooth pick and drawing a line through the centre of the wax.

Step 5

Once you are happy with how you sculpted the Gash it is time to paint. Start off with a darker colour on the inside of the cut. Then blend the darker colour with a red.

Paint the wax a deep red shade

Step 6

Lastly, if you don’t have stage blood, you can use a bit of lube. Yes, you heard that correctly. Clear lube will make the cut/gash look shiny and make it look realistic. Remember less is more.

Add a lighter red colour to the outer edges of the cut and where the wax meets the skin to give an irritated look

Add stage blood to inside the cut

Now once you've completed this easy halloween sfx makeup all you have to do is throw on a quick outfit and you can scare your friends with this realistic gash you just made. Happy Halloween!
