Miss Julia <3

Julia booked with us for her fall wedding in 2024. During her Preview Appointment, she brought inspiration photos featuring pink-toned shadows and soft winged liner. She had a clear vision and wanted to feel like an absolute babe all day long. As we discussed her skincare routine and what she hoped for, two major concerns arose: her hair falling flat and her combination skin breaking down her makeup halfway through the day. These concerns are completely valid—and they are fixable!

Understanding Skin Types

After analyzing her skin and discussing her concerns further, I still wasn’t entirely sure if she had truly combination skin or if it leaned more toward oily. For her Preview, I decided to treat her skin as combination. This approach is crucial because using products designed for oily skin on someone with true combination skin can backfire. It can dry out the skin too much, leading to dullness, dehydration, and cakiness. And let’s be honest—the Alberta climate doesn’t help with this issue.

I prepped her skin with a hydrating cream, layered on a gripping primer, and then added a setting spray as a base. When we finished her look, she loved her glam. In fact, she felt so good that she headed out for a dinner date with her fiancé right after!

The Preview Results

A few days later, I followed up to see how the makeup held up. She said she was still obsessed with the look! However, her natural oils began peeking through after a few hours, and the front pieces of her hair lost some hold. This was something we suspected might happen. The whole purpose of the Preview is to test, adjust, and perfect the makeup and hair for that sweat-proof look.

Tailoring the Big Day Look

So, for the big day, I refined her prep process. I swapped the cream moisturizer for lightweight, water-based layers. I also incorporated a theatre-grade toner specifically designed for oily skin, and misted between steps to lock everything in.

For her hair, I added extra texture, turned the heat up just a touch, and held the curls longer around her face to improve longevity.

And what was the result?

“Chelsea!!!!! Thank you so much for yesterday! The makeup and hair lasted all night, even through many tears and sweat lol. You were so lovely to work with. I hope to reach out to you again! <3”

Her words say it all. When beauty is tailored toyou, it shows—and it lasts.*

Tips for Choosing Your Bridal Look

Choosing the right hair and makeup for your wedding day is crucial. Here are some tips to help you make the best decisions:

1. Know Your Skin Type

Understanding your skin type is key. Is it oily, dry, or combination? Knowing this will guide your choice of products. For instance, if you have combination skin, you may require different treatments for different areas of your face. Consult with a professional makeup artist who can assess and recommend the right products.

2. Bring Inspiration Photos

Photos can communicate what words often fail to express. Bring inspirational images to your consultations. This helps the artist understand your vision and style preferences. Don’t hesitate to point out what you love in the photos.

3. Be Open to Suggestions

While it’s important to stick to your vision, don’t be afraid to take your makeup artist's advice. They often have knowledge about what looks good on different face shapes and skin types.

4. Consider the Weather

The weather can have a significant impact on your look. If you're having a summer wedding, think about how heat and humidity may affect your makeup and hair. You may want to choose waterproof products and hairstyles that can withstand sweat.

5. Schedule a Preview Appointment

A Preview Appointment is essential. This allows you to try your hair and makeup before the big day. You can make any necessary adjustments to ensure you love your look.
